Acceptable Use Policy
1. Purpose
This policy sets out what you may not do with an IDLhost.com service. It exists to keep our servers stable, our network reputable and our customers out of each other’s way. It forms part of our Terms of Service.
2. Prohibited content and activity
You may not use our services to host, transmit or link to:
- Material that is illegal under United States or Wisconsin law
- Child sexual abuse material — reported to law enforcement without notice and with immediate termination
- Adult or pornographic content
- Gambling operations
- Content that infringes copyright, trademark or other intellectual property
- Malware, viruses, exploit kits or hacking tools
- Phishing pages, fraudulent storefronts or content impersonating another business or person
- Material that harasses, threatens or incites violence against anyone
3. Email and messaging
Unsolicited bulk email is prohibited, whether sent from our servers or sent elsewhere to advertise a site hosted here. Mailing lists must be opt-in, must honour unsubscribe requests promptly, and must accurately identify the sender.
Open relays, open proxies and forged mail headers are prohibited. Spam complaints damage the sending reputation of every customer on the server, so we act on them quickly.
4. Server resources
Shared hosting resources are shared. You may not run processes that consistently consume disproportionate CPU, memory, disk I/O or database capacity, including:
- Cryptocurrency mining
- Public file-sharing, backup dumps or media distribution unrelated to a website
- Long-running daemons or background processes on shared accounts
- Poorly configured scripts that generate excessive load
If your site outgrows shared hosting, that is a good problem. We will tell you and suggest a plan that fits rather than simply cutting you off.
5. Network conduct
You may not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, scan or probe networks without permission, intercept traffic, or take part in denial-of-service activity, whether the target is ours or someone else’s.
6. Backups and data
Our nightly backups exist for our own disaster recovery. You must keep your own independent copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Do not use your hosting account as the sole storage location for irreplaceable data.
7. Resellers
If you resell our hosting, you are responsible for your clients’ compliance with this policy. We will contact you, rather than your client, about a problem account wherever we reasonably can.
8. Enforcement
Where we believe this policy has been breached we may remove content, suspend or terminate the account, and where appropriate notify law enforcement.
Except where a server or another customer is at immediate risk, or where the law requires otherwise, we will contact you first and give you an opportunity to put it right. We would much rather solve a problem than close an account.
9. Reporting abuse
To report a site or account hosted by us that appears to breach this policy, contact sales@idlhost.com with the domain name and enough detail for us to investigate. We take reports seriously and act on them.
