Staffed around the clock
Someone is always there. We are a small company in Central time and we do not pretend otherwise — if overnight phone support is essential to you, that is a real reason to stay.
Bluehost is enormous, competent and owned by Newfold Digital, which also owns HostGator, Network Solutions and Web.com. If you are leaving because you want to be more than a row in a database, it is worth checking who you are moving to.
Bluehost hosts a staggering number of sites, and it runs that operation well. That scale buys real things: redundant infrastructure, staff at every hour, an enormous knowledge base, one-click installs for almost anything.
It costs one thing, and it is the thing people write in to us about. At that size, support has to be a process. The first person you reach is following a decision tree, because with that many customers it cannot work any other way. When your problem fits the tree, it is fast. When it does not, you escalate, repeat yourself, and wait.
We are the opposite trade, deliberately. We are small, so your ticket reaches somebody who can actually change the thing you are asking about — and who will remember the conversation next time. That is worth a great deal on a bad day and almost nothing on a good one, which is honestly the fairest way to put it.
The other thing worth knowing: several of the hosts people move to when they leave Bluehost have the same parent company. Moving from Bluehost to HostGator is not changing supplier. It is changing brand.
If one of these is what you need, stay where you are. We would rather say that than sell you a move you will regret.

Years of documentation covering almost every common problem. Genuinely useful, and far larger than anything we could write.
Installers for a long list of applications. We have cPanel's installer, which covers the popular ones, but the catalogue is smaller.
Less than people expect, and we do the awkward parts.
That is usually enough for us to see what you are running and where. We look before quoting, and migration is a flat $299 however many sites are involved. If moving will not fix your problem, we will say so and you can stop there.
Nothing is switched off. We copy the files, the databases and the email, then test the whole thing on a temporary address while your current site carries on serving visitors.
Only once you are happy. DNS changes take a few hours to reach everyone, and your old account stays up throughout, so there is no window where nothing works.
On your schedule, not ours, once you are satisfied nothing was missed. We would rather you kept it a fortnight than felt rushed out of it.
Your domain can stay where it is registered. Moving hosting does not require moving the domain, and we will not push you to.
Three shared plans and no fourth one hiding behind an upsell. First year from $5 a month, and the year-two rate is printed beside it.
Usually not. WordPress moves cleanly — files, database, done — and it is the single most common migration we do. We copy it, test it on a temporary address, and only cut over once you have looked at it.
No. Mailboxes move with the account and we set them up before anything is switched over. Bring us the list of addresses and we will make sure they exist here first. If you use a separate provider such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, that keeps working untouched.
Sometimes you should not, and we will tell you when. The comparison that matters is year two, when the introductory rate ends — we print our renewal price next to our intro price for exactly that reason. Compare those two numbers rather than the headline.
No. No connection of any kind. We are an independent company in Milwaukee and we own our hardware.
How we compare, what HostGator genuinely does better, and what moving involves.

A sourced table of which hosting brands share an owner, and what consolidation actually changes for customers.
Send us your domain. We will tell you what you are running, what it is likely to cost you at renewal, and whether we would actually be an improvement. Sometimes the honest answer is to stay.
